Janelle Geddes Backman
I grew up east of Olds where I enjoyed summers riding my horse with mountain view sunsets. I am grateful for my very large extended family and my Welsh and German roots. After graduating I moved to Calgary to take a corporate travel course at S.A.I.T. and started my hands-on hospitality journey at the Delta Bow Valley Hotel.
In 2008 l moved from Calgary to Red Deer and this is where my housing journey began as a sales leader in retirement residences. I have now helped hundreds of people reach their housing goals and it has been a true gift being a part of their journey. My combined experience has provided me with strong negotiation skills, personalized advice, attention to detail, honest and constant communication, optimism, patience, effective listening skills, adaptability and knowledge.
Since 2017 my main focus has been in Residential Real Estate in Red Deer. I enjoy it all – helping people downsize, upsize and relocate. Assisting repeat clients has been the best compliment to date.
Additionally I have also recently graduated with a Diploma as a Legal Administrative Assistant. I enjoyed the challenge of simultaneously being a college student and an active Realtor.
Why did you become a realtor?
To help people find housing is true gift, when I was the sales leader at retirement residences, I decided I would like to continue helping people find housing in a different more mobile way. I would bring seniors fresh baked cookies and hear their stories in their own houses, I liked the feeling helping people make and embrace such a big change in their lives.
Where do you like to travel?
Mexico (Cancun and Akumal), Palm Springs, San Diego and Hawaii. Costa Rica and Belize are on my bucket list.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I cherish and adore nature, especially water. I am a water sign and love reading daily and monthly horoscopes and choosing cards for fun.
What is your favourite part of selling real estate?
Every home has something to offer and it's amazing helping people connect to their next home. They are either starting a new journey or closing a chapter. I enjoy it all, the thrill of upsizing, the financial and or health relief of downsizing, the excitement of relocating!
What are your favourite books, movies, shows, bands?
Books: “The Secret”. Every time I pick it up I let it open naturally to allow random pages to lead the day! Movies: Along Came Polly. Couples Retreat. Bridesmaids. Lone Survivor. Zero Dark Thirty TV: Law and Order. Ozark. Bands: Jazz, especially older jazz like Ella Fitzgerald. Nora En Pure. Avicii. Dance music of the late 90s & early 2000s.
